Planning Ahead

I Can Have it Tomorrow, right?

“Trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.”

― Moliere

It’s not uncommon for those who do things to rely on the work of others to achieve their end goals. In point of fact and in the harsh glare of certainty, few endeavors do not rely on the good works of others almost to the exclusion of the person who lays claim to the prize.

So it is with printing. There are paper vendors, ink suppliers, die makers, binders, pressmen, graphic designers, pre-press, post-press and even custodians. All of them and more, are a part of getting your job out into the world, so sometimes tomorrow is neither possible nor desirable.

We’ll get it out as quickly as possible to you, but other jobs are probably already in line, we have to get paper in, we have to rely on the work of repairmen for the presses, and we want it to be done right.  Our reputation has been for really good work and pulling off the occasional  miracle.

What helps in speeding up the process:

Have a clear understanding of the process.  Will there be several back and forth design decisions to be made? Are you actually at the point of needing the printing and are your ideas mostly settled? If you are the middle-man, do you actually know the wishes of your client, or do you need to sit down with them and hash out the final details? Have you planned time for the printing to be done with your printer?
